About the Image(s)

I went to see a speaker last weekend that talked about black and white photography. When I came home, I played with a couple of older files and converted them to black and white using some of the tips from the event.

I took this image in Las Vegas. I converted to Black in White in Lightroom and adjusted the curve to make sure I had black blacks and white whites. I also tried to darken the street lamps in the upper right and added a slight vignette.

ISO 4000, 3.5, 1/60

This is a well done B&W conversion. You have good detail throughout the image and a complete tonal range from blacks to whites. The lights at the top are a bit hot, but so are they in the original. I would crop the elbow on the right out. It looks like the girls are having a fun time!   Posted: 10/21/2019 18:12:35

I agree that your choice of B&W was correct and with what Alan has said. The other thing I noticed were the legs that appear to have fine noise so I used Imagenomics (weak noise) to remove the noise and give a smoother look to the legs.   Posted: 10/25/2019 20:09:55

I like the moment, the composition, exposure and focus. I am not sure about the monochrome. For me Vegas is about the color, lights and glitz. I just don't feel that in the monochrome. I thought cropping the image square and adding a little bokeh to the background--just a little. I am out of town and do not have PS with me so I could not add the bokeh. I removed the lady's face on the left side.   Posted: 10/30/2019 20:29:29
