About the Image(s)

Abstract in Brown and White
Taken on 7/12/19 in Big Trees State Park_Abstract i in the morning as we were leaving Yosemite. The trees were magnificent and huge. This was a small part of the base of one of the trunks and I played around with making it into an abstract. I took it with my Nikon D5300 with a Tamron 18-400mm lens at 75mm. I shot it at 1/160 second at f/25 and ISO 2000. I processed and cropped it in Lightroom and tried to add some color in PhotoShop but that did not work. A camera club speaker had just talked about ways to make abstracts so I tried it. I have a lot to learn but it was fun trying different things.

I like the composition with the repeating lines. It seems to be either cropped too much so that the detail is breaking up or it is a bit out of focus. A slight vignette may draw the eye into the frame.   Posted: 04/04/2021 12:39:22

I love to do abstract work and love lots of textures. Would love to see your original before post processing!   Posted: 04/04/2021 20:35:19

It was a very small piece of the bottom of a very large tree in Big Trees State Park in CA. Can't figure out how to include original image.   Posted: 04/04/2021 20:53:26

Margaret, I really like the textures in this shot and the various shades of brown and tan. I like the way you positioned the light and dark lines in the bark so that they follow the rule of thirds. I like the overall effect but I wish there had been a knot in the wood or something similar to add a little more interest.   Posted: 04/05/2021 13:15:35

Good point! I knew it was missing something but could not figure out what to do about it.   Posted: 04/05/2021 19:31:41
