About the Image(s)

Here is my entry for December. The original shows it in color. I wanted to change it to a monochromatic photo. I took it with my Canon Rebel xti6. It had f8, 1/250, ISO 400 and 100mm. I did an edit in Lightroom by sharpening using luminance smoothing and spot removal. Changed the color to monochromatic. It is named "Simply Perfect".

What a lovely shot. Monochrome brings more attention to the shape and textures. Nicely done.   Posted: 12/07/2020 11:56:43

Jamie, I love your creative use of monochrome. I would never have thought that I would like the tulips in monochrome because I love the colors in them so much. However, I think your editing took the photo to a whole new artistic level. I love all the softness around the main tulip. Also, I like the way the background is minimized.   Posted: 12/07/2020 14:44:05

I agree about the color too but I needed to do a monochrome photo and was surprised at the dreamy look it had. Thanks!   Posted: 12/07/2020 15:05:18

My first look and impression was "Wow" because it was perfect. Then I saw the original and thought, no I like color better. Then I looked more and realized that making it monochrome (and whatever else you did) made the out of focus 2nd tulip much less noticeable and the whole background so much better. This is a long way of saying I love it.   Posted: 12/11/2020 09:03:06

The monochrome is well done. My personal taste veers away from the beige monochrome, however. I'd love to see it either in black and white or shades of pink. I'd try to convert it, but I'm having trouble with this computer and waiting for delivery of a new one by tonight so I'll do better when the new one is up and running and has the room to work on the latest edition of photoshop. It actually looks pink on my PC.   Posted: 12/18/2020 16:23:37

Jamie, great choice of image. I like the color version as well as the edited, monochromatic version. I'd be curious to see it in black & white. The sepia tone also has a warmth to it. So, great edit and great shots!   Posted: 12/19/2020 18:16:26

I was curious and worked on it in Lightroom on Silver Efex Pro. I also did a light vignette. What do you think?   Posted: 12/20/2020 15:02:47

I like the flower in black & white a lot! The edit really captures the shading and texture of the front flower petal really clearly. In the black & white edit, I can also see a bit more of the out-of-focus background more distinctly (i.e. blades of grass, other petals/flowers etc.) It's a really lovely black & white edit, with lots of layers of shading. Great job!   Posted: 12/20/2020 16:06:14
