About the Image(s)

One of the clubs I belong to took the opportunity to visit a candy factory. Not great photo pickings, but the candy assortment, samples, and of course purchases were just what the sugar freak ordered. This wall hanging was all candy and the pattern and colors were more than enough to capture my fancy.

Just selected the section I wanted; cropped, adjusted sharpness, contrast, brightness, etc. and used their candy layout for framing.

Hard to believe this is candy. Great colors and interesting edible quilt. I think the colors in the original seem more real for candy. You did a good job of getting it straightened out.   Posted: 01/10/2020 16:51:13

OK - I'm trying to understand why this also isn't someone else's art? I love the patterns and color and the whole thing is done well. I probably would not have commented about that but I had just read your comments and you see what I said and then opened this and I could not help but think "what's the difference?" I'm not upset about your comments on mine and I hope I'm not upsetting you (Bev and Jamie) but I think it is a good thing to be discussing and is something I've wondered about many times as I watch the judging of photos of sculptures, etc.   Posted: 01/11/2020 21:17:14

One difference I guess is that, if you notice, I changed it a bit. I was larger, I cropped it to size, and to be honest I never thought about candy as art you do have a very valid point of discussion. And, no I would never get upset over this kind of issue.   Posted: 01/12/2020 05:31:06

Interesting comment. I guess I never really thought about the fact that I was shooting art because I was trying to get pictures that would demonstrate Washington. I don't think I did a good job of that though. Glad to know what you are thinking.   Posted: 01/12/2020 07:36:02

Somewhere along the line I know I've heard that photographing someone else's art is pretty much a no no for competitions, correction, etc. However if you make a change to the art itself, it becomes a different ball game. I think to demonstrate Washington, you might have done better to take a long shot including surroundings and found a way in te image to highlight this "quilt". I'd really like to hear what everyone else has to say as I don't want to sound too picky. Hope you understand.   Posted: 01/12/2020 08:47:36

It's a nice picture, but it lets you know how many types of Jelly beans they have. Not counting the factory they have three room of all types of candy. Attached is a picture of just a small part of one room.   Posted: 01/13/2020 11:01:11
