November 2019 - AMIGOS - NEW MEXICO

About the Image(s)

This image was taken at the Dia de los Muertos Parade in Albuquerque’s South Valley. The three musicians were riding along a crowded parade route in the back of a truck. I was trying to capture a portrait of the young man with his guitar, but finally decided to include the the other two fellows at his side to give some context to the image.

As usual you have created a great image. I'm not sure why you did not use a greater depth of field so the 2 on the sides would be sharper. I would have liked them to be sharper unless there was some reason you could not do it. Why did you think this was better?   Posted: 11/06/2019 19:26:21

Margaret, Thanks for you comments. At this particular event, the action is very fast and the subjects are always in motion. My main objective for the day was to capture street portraits. I preset my camera to most likely capture good face detail with a blurred backgrounds. With my camera set up, I focus on the action coming down the street and try and to get a clean shot. There is not a lot of time to fiddle with the camera. I have found if I am patient and stick with the plan, I am more likely to get more acceptable images. In this case the image I think the image is stronger when closely copped on the main subject. This example needs some fine tuning, but I think it is moving in the right direction.   Posted: 11/15/2019 09:07:49

Thanks - I understand what you did and why. Now, I do like the one you just posted better. If I have to get picky, I'm wondering if you can do anything with the hat so it could be more interesting. As I'm sure you know, I cannot do any of this stuff and I greatly admire everything you do.   Posted: 11/15/2019 11:23:48

I love how you got him looking right into the camera and with great DOF.   Posted: 11/06/2019 21:00:12

You are so good with these unusual locations and portraits. I just did the Day of the Dead in Ft. Lauderdale and immediately after downloading, my computer crashed so it will be a bit before I can exhibit those images.   Posted: 11/11/2019 16:13:02

Love your image but like Margaret, I wish the other two guys were more in focus.   Posted: 11/11/2019 16:44:34

A very lovely image but I agree with the cropping done by Margaret. And I miss seeing these images as I am a UNM alumni!!   Posted: 11/16/2019 15:26:50
