About the Image(s)

This image was taken forever ago when we traveled in China. We had left a Yangtze River Cruise and were traveling to Wuhan when the bus had a flat and we were stopped by the side of the road while it was repaired. The workers were fascinated with the American tourists and happily posed for pictures. I never did much with them and came across them in my files so I decided to play with them using Topaz in an attempt to get some of the artifacts out. Used a couple of different filters and finally moved it into the new A1 sharpen which is one of the most amazing filters I've ever worked with.

Love this technique you used. I do not have Topaz but am thinking about getting it if it is available. Any recommendations?

I bought my first Topaz combo a few years ago at a PSA convention and have sworn by it ever since. Once you have it, they constantly send you upgrades and for the ones you have the upgrades are free. It is probably the best photography investment I ever made.   Posted: 10/01/2019 15:05:54

Beverly, I really like the subject, but I am not a fan of the Topaz approach for this image. In my opinion the Topaz graphic treatment distracts from the personality of the woman. She has such an open honest face and an engaging smile. The use of the Topaz filter may have been bit heavy handed in an attempt to remove artifacts in the orginal image. That said , I applaud trying a creative approach to bring an image to life.

I was about to say I liked the image you posted, compared to the others. But then I saw those black marks on her nose, lip, and eyebrows and I did not like it as much. What was wrong with the original before you did anything with it?   Posted: 10/07/2019 07:23:29

Too much grain in the sky for a starter.   Posted: 10/07/2019 07:48:49
