About the Image(s)

I processed in Lightroom. First straightening the horizon, changing some of the exposure and contrast. I decreased the highlights and increased the shadows and added more texture. On Photoshop Elements, I took out the obstruction in the lower left.

Red barn, blue sky and green landscape are always elements I find visually pleasing. The dominant lines in this image are horizontal which I always think create a pastoral feeling - one that is also suggested by your title. The detail in the sky adds interest for me, it looks like you have captured good depth of field. My only suggestion would be to crop some off the left as there is not much going on there - perhaps crop up to the metal gate. In my opinon that would bring more focus to your center of interest - the barn.   Posted: 08/06/2019 12:18:57

Jamie, I think you did a nice job capturing summer in the county. I agree that some cropping would yield a better photograph. It looks like a beautiful day to be in the field. I am wondering about other ideas to approach the subject. The reflections of the barn on the water look interesting.   Posted: 08/09/2019 17:35:40

Thank you two for your critique. I reworked it as you both suggested and do like the crop better,   Posted: 08/10/2019 11:47:44

Redo is much better. I would just use a gradient and bring down the exposure a bit on the foreground. Otherwise, very nice image.   Posted: 08/10/2019 16:33:53

I am not sure how to use the gradient Sean.   Posted: 08/11/2019 19:57:09

It is the rectangle - 4th one from left at the top of the LR Develop Module. Click on it and you will get a plus sign with 3 horizontal lines that you can manipulate over the sky in your image. You can completley rotate the lines or put them at an angle. This allows you to make local adjustments rather than global ones that would affect your whole image. Let me know if you want me to show you how. I am available until Labor Day then gone for a month.   Posted: 08/26/2019 09:03:29

I love this peaceful scene and agree that your re-do is much better. Besides, then you would not have had to take out the obstruction in Elements.   Posted: 08/11/2019 19:50:13

Jamie, welcome to PSA. So glad you joined. Amazing how the crop changes the image! I agree with Sean that the gradient tool will be useful in changing the exposure. You can learn how to do that Tuesday night!!   Posted: 08/12/2019 17:11:07

I worked with the gradient tool in Lightroom to darken the fence. Can anyone tell; it is different?   Posted: 08/26/2019 14:21:11
