About the Image(s)

This image is from a memorable visit to Iceland 8 years ago. I wish I could revisit with my more up to date camera!

A really nice landscape shot Jen. I really like the interplay between the water and the scenery. The houses (or perhaps churches) also provide a sense of place and time. In addition I like the way you processed the image.

I can see why you would like to go back

I am torn as I look at the image. The diagonal walkway at bottom right of the image sort of demands my attention taking away from the overall landscape feel. At the same time the walkway and the person on the walkway provides an economy of scale for the image - a sense of the size of the area you have photographed. I have looked at the image from both views (with and without that walkway)- I think you made the right call leaving it in the image, but it does tend to grab my attention away from the rest of the image.

All in all a very nice image, thank you for sharing it with us Jen.   Posted: 04/02/2021 19:46:03

Thanks Ed for you comments. I think you are right -that the path and the man are distracting. One gets attached to one's image and it helps to have suggestions to see it in a different way! Many thanks, Ed   Posted: 04/14/2021 20:14:05

Hi Jen as Ed says a very nice image I like the way the water leads you in and the houses are positioned nicely, I am not sure about the path either also the walker is walking out of the frame, I would darken the path slightly lighten the walker and move him up the path. there are also a few white areas on the left I would remove. I have made a very rough edit to show you what I mean.   Posted: 04/06/2021 02:50:15

Thanks so much for the suggestions, Colin. I like the position of the man and will work on tidying up the image. I will just have to have two versions of this one!   Posted: 04/14/2021 20:19:48

Hi Jen,
a beautiful image that carries the feeling of standing there between land and sky with a wide unobstructed view. I love the layers of hills that gradually fade in the horizon and increase the sense of depth and distance. I would vote for trying a tighter crop that would eliminate the path and the walker. That would leave a more simple composition with the water and the road taking the eye to the church without any competition for attention?   Posted: 04/06/2021 08:30:06

Thanks for the good suggestion about the crop, Kristi. I did like the man and the path but it looks much better cropped. Many thanks!   Posted: 04/14/2021 20:08:35

Jen, I loved him, too, the lonely small human in the vast open landscape walking towards an unknown destination. He would deserve an image of his own!   Posted: 04/15/2021 02:08:37

Jen, this is a really beautiful image. I like Kirsti's crop. A little more contrast or perhaps just brightening the buildings would give it a little more contrast boost. Also on my screen the sky seems to have excessive noise.   Posted: 04/13/2021 21:13:17

Thanks Albert for the suggestions. I will add contrast and try and work on the noisy sky.   Posted: 04/14/2021 20:10:32

A beautiful shot Jen, I like many elements in the photo. The composition of the leading lines of the river is nice.

There are 1-2 suggestions which I had but they are already mentioned by others.   Posted: 04/24/2021 05:53:21

Sorry I'm so late again! Before I read the prior comments, I felt the path and Walker did not help. I can understand keeping them, because the start of the waterway really helps from bottom left to take you into the picture, but on balance I feel Kirsti's crop is a better solution.
Iceland is a very special place! Thank you for taking us there!   Posted: 04/30/2021 12:30:29
