About the Image(s)

aken in January this year - On a Sunday a pedestrian area was dedicated to young people being taught a variety of arts - I stayed with a music teacher for some while patiently waiting for one of them to give me a clean background: this was my best. I’ve include the colour developed version, but I prefer the B&W.

The lad was a character (and could play quite well!) and was lucky with the light and the two others looking inward to him.

Settings - 1/500 f4 ISO200 using my Olympus E-M1X and 12-100 lens at 75mm (FF 150)

PP in Lightroom - Cropped 25% off and focussed on controlling the bright areas

Great street photography, Adrian, and so emblematic of Cuba! I was there several years ago and was struck by the way music permeates the culture, the many children on the street, and the optimism of the people, all of which are displayed here. The color in the original, which is also emblematic of Cuba, would take away from the boy playing, and that makes this a great choice for black and white. Well done.   Posted: 10/07/2020 09:58:49

A really great catch Adrian. I enjoy street photography, and this is as good as any I have seen.

I like the composition of the image a lot. It catches the interaction between the two girls and the young man very nicely as he is playing, that along with the reflection in the bell of the trumpet. It is always encouraging when I see young people doing something besides playing games or social media on a phone whether or not they can afford a phone. It is my hope and prayer that he continues to play and goes on to become really great in his music.

I also like the story telling aspect of the image. It does not tell ma a story, but it encourages me to create a story about what I am seeing.

Thank you very much for sharing it with us Adrian.

Your image is perfect in black and white, Adrian. You have captured a lovely group of three. The expression on little girl's face is very well caught. Cuba has been on my list for a long time but have not made it there yet, unfortunately!

Adrian, This works very well as street photography and I love that you captured this moment with each child in a moment by his or herself i.e. three individual moments. This is not easy and your patience paid off handsomely. Nice detail, good tonal range with shadows and highlights well exposed, clean background. As a bonus I think your color image works well too as the color palette is simple and complementary. Congratulations on a great shot!   Posted: 10/12/2020 16:39:04

I am usually not a fan of street photography but I really like this one Adrian. I like the way the horn pulls the three kids together. To me the black and white version is much stronger. It removes the distraction of the bright colors.
Great shot!   Posted: 10/18/2020 07:48:36
