Chicago Alley by Jen Carrick

July 2017 - Chicago Alley

About the Image(s)

I walked past this ally which is next to the theater where Hamilton is showing.
I was struck by the man on the left who was sitting there with his plastic shopping bag and walking stick, and I wanted to portray him in the architecture of the alley

1/60, F8.0, Iso 1250 24 mm
I did not do too much in Post processing apart from converting the image to black and white, working on the vertical lines and boosting the contrast

Jen,
You always seem to pull these "FINE ART" shots out of some magical hat that you must wear ! Great eye !!! Thank you for seeing the way you do ! Very well done.   Posted: 07/10/2017 14:43:55

Jen,

There is nothing I can add to what Darrell said. This is a wonderful image. The geometric lines and shapes in the image (especially that cat walks and stairs) make for a very striking, the my eye, image.

I can come up with no constructive suggestions for improvement,

Thank you for sharing it with us.   Posted: 07/13/2017 23:26:31

This is great, Jen! I have attempted scenes like this also. I love the repeating shapes and lines, the diffuse light, the people help with a sense of scale, and the eye is lead to the street beyond. The only improvement I might attempt would be a touch more contrast, but that's up to one's style.   Posted: 07/15/2017 11:03:39

Jen...
Great leading lines. Your eye goes straight to the man in the focal point. Good image. I agree with Jack, it needs a little contrast.
Well done.   Posted: 07/16/2017 08:13:53

More contrast would be better I think. My first impression was that you took this image in a prison. Strange, isn't it? I would like to see men a bit closer, too, crop off the low part of the image. Just below the legs?   Posted: 07/18/2017 11:38:12
