About the Image(s)

I took this while working on a wood project in my shop in my basement. The tool is a spoke shave designed to round out spokes from square stock. I was caught by the wood shavings as I worked the wood. I deliberately left the ends out of focus in order to draw the eye to the center occupied by the spoke shave.

I used a D800 with a Nikkor AF 35-70 f/2.8 lens. The lens was set to f/2 at 760mm. The camera was set to aperture priority f/2.8, ISO800, for 1/125 sec., hand held. I did some basic post processing in LR, then converted it to monochrome in Silver Efex Pro. I used a Full Spectrum preset (017) and chose a film type ISO32 Kodak Panatomic X. Back in LR it did some further tweaking of lighting, and finally into PSCC to resize the image and save it as a JPG file.

Ed,
I REALLY like this shot, only thing I can think to improve might be to vignette (dark) What a great concept !   Posted: 07/10/2017 14:32:31

Ed, I agree with Darrell the vignette would improve it. I might also bump up the contrast a little. It's a really nice shot. Tells a good story.

Along the lines of what the others are saying, I think the image feels like it wants more contrast, given the one dark object and rest of the scene lighter. I would darken the cross piece more and lighten the rest. Also, a vignette might be a good idea.

I like the concept of the image, works well for me.   Posted: 07/15/2017 10:53:14

I really like the strong diagonal feel of this image and the way it contrasts with the soft shavings. You brought what is,
to me, an odinary image and made me pay attention. I appreciate that, Thanks, Ed   Posted: 07/15/2017 16:21:40

I would agree with Jack. More contrast would be necessary. I like the detail and the middle grey.   Posted: 07/17/2017 12:04:50
