About the Image(s)

Technical info: 1/200 second @ f/3.5 ISO 800,Bracketed 2 stops over and under. Nikon D500 with 28-300 at 42mm. Processed first in Aurora 2018 HDR using the Magical Glow preset and then making some minor adjustments to that, then into Lightroom where I did a -70 on clarity and used the radial filter to enhance the beams of light coming through and the walkway. I also used the adjustment brush to darken the walkway. Then into On1 effects module and used Dynamic Contrast in the soft setting, added a glow filter and then the sunshine filter. Back into Lightroom once more to adjust the shadows and Highlights.

Was going to do a bird shoot at Gatorland Florida in the early morning hours, the person letting us in suggestion taking the walking path through the swamp, so looking for a different shot I took the path, didn’t see any birds, but the path gave me an idea, it felt like I was in a tunnel, with streaks of light coming through the trees. So I had a plan for how I wanted to process the image. I came close to what I wanted, but will keep working on it. The fog and haze don’t show up the way I want it, so far. Curious about suggestions to make it more interesting.

Jeff, I like the im age but the railing seemed way to soft. Sort of made me feel like I couldn't focus on it. I put the mage into On1 Effects and added a Sharpening Filter. To get jsut the walkway I used a Luminosity Filter overlay and adjusted "Levels" until only the walkway would be impacted. I then increased the sharpness of the Highlights. Let me know what you think.   Posted: 06/03/2018 16:18:04

Yes, I like how that sharpen it, I will try it on this image.   Posted: 06/09/2018 18:37:17

Jeff, you have an image with so many possibilities, and Gary has taken a different approach from you. Both are interesting, and worthy.
For my part, I do not care for images whose colors are enhanced quite this much, however lovely they may be--I find them a bit unnatural. I would suggest enhancing the colors maybe about half to 2/3 of what you have done, so to speak. I prefer that an image does not announce "I am post-processed."   Posted: 06/04/2018 19:15:33

Nice leading line into the trees and scene. I like your softness of everything, but I might suggest toning down the color in the walkway, back more toward gray, and perhaps just a tad of less saturation in the greens, although the effect of the foliage is nice and dreamy. A different take on an interesting site. Thanks for presenting us with something 'different'!   Posted: 06/18/2018 21:25:35

Jeff, I wish I had seen this before I visited there this past March (but then, most of the leaves hadn't yet come out on the trees). You've created an "Orton" effect similar to what I once did by sandwiching two overexposed slides, one focused and the other out of focus, in the same mount. (I've also done this in digital using layers.) The walkway leads you into the scene and invites you to explore further (but I didn't see any birds in this end of Gatorland). I agree with others that the green should be desaturated a bit.   Posted: 06/19/2018 15:47:35

Don, that was somewhat the idea, as I walk through I really did not see any birds except at the entrance, partway through I wanted to get something from this walk and thought of how peaceful and dreamlike it was. Gatorland has a lot to offer, my favorite place for bird photography.   Posted: 06/30/2018 10:29:10

I enjoyed what you did with this photo. Goes to show what you can do to make a regular photo into an interesting photo. It's a dreamscape.
