January 2021 - Taipei 101 Fireworks

About the Image(s)

This year's Taipei 101 2021 New Year's Eve countdown fireworks show begin at 11:55 p.m., December 31 (Taipei time). Taipei 101, this iconic skyscraper, which has been holding New Year countdown displays since 2005, will be one of the few landmarks around the world that will proceed with the festivities as scheduled, as the COVID-19 pandemic has curtailed celebrations in many places. This year's theme for the fireworks show is "love." A total of 16,000 fireworks are used during the five-minute display, including red and blue heart shapes as a tribute to medical personnel around the world for their efforts to combat COVID-19
My Nikon D810 was on tripod with f/14, ISO L1.0 and various exposure times in B mode. I used a wide angle to cover the whole scene. But I was not satisfactory to the effect. Thus I enlarged the local building and fireworks. Image was first cropped in PhotopShop. Post processing was done in Viveza2 by enhancing the contrast and saturation.

A beautiful fireworks shot! I like the way you simplified the shot to frame only one building with two, similar exploding fireworks below. Definitely not your typical fireworks shot. The lights in the building are quite dramatic and nicely exposed to match the exposure and color of the fireworks. Very well done!   Posted: 01/05/2021 09:25:51

Such a nice shot with great clarity. I love the bright colors against the black and the composition is very nice. I especially like the row of lit windows in between the fireworks bursts. At first i wasn't sure about the lean of the building, but the more I looked at it, the more I liked it. Very artistic and well done.   Posted: 01/07/2021 09:37:47

As one who has taken many fireworks photos, I can't help but wonder if these are two photos laid on top of each other? The photo is sharp and full of color! You caught the bursts at just the right time. For me, I would like to see more on the left side of the building. As it is, it seems like an abrupt ending of the building.   Posted: 01/07/2021 10:28:16

nice! envy you still could go out and shot, as normal as it was pre covid-19. Jealous :)
Color choice is interesting, but got its charm and it works. nicely done.

Good fireworks image. I would be inclined to get rid of the three trails at the top of the image because they are unconnected to the rest of the subject matter.   Posted: 01/08/2021 18:16:30
