About the Image(s)

These were my father's fishing flies. He and my son would fish together, so I wanted to take a photo for my son to have. I set the flies on leaves on my dining room table to get natural light. After cropping, I adjusted the contrast, details and exposure in photoshop and used Topaz Glow2 > Dream filter at a 20 percent opacity.

A nice, sharp and contrasty image with good colors. I like the way you post processed the image to bring out the sharpness and textures. The sharpness of the fly feathers, however, seem to compete with the texture in the leaves. If you can shoot this again, you might try placing the flies on a simple black background.   Posted: 01/01/2021 18:46:30

A photo with a nice thought! The flies have good colors and line patterns. But I think the leaf patterns are too much competition against the flies. Maybe one leaf would have been enough to keep the attention on the flies.   Posted: 01/02/2021 09:15:02

I see your point, David and Don. I think I will try it again with a simpler background.   Posted: 01/07/2021 10:04:40

Here's another view I tried. Thoughts?   Posted: 01/12/2021 10:59:39

Oh, bold and chaotic, is my immediate thought.
Then I saw the revision, yes, much quieter and it works.   Posted: 01/13/2021 04:27:00

I like this picture. Are these large flies that might be used for salmon? Were they tied by your father? I like the colors and the natural background. Print this on canvas and hang in the den.   Posted: 01/17/2021 21:51:13

I doubt if they would be used for salmon since we live in the Midwest. I think my father tied these, but they were mixed with others.   Posted: 01/28/2021 10:33:54

I like the color, pattern, texture and the composition of the image. The background leaves are fine to me. The lightening of the leaves could be darkened a bit but do not need to delete completely. But the revised image is amazing to me. How could you perform such tedious work to remove those background?   Posted: 01/27/2021 02:45:39

I retook the photo against a plain background.   Posted: 01/28/2021 10:34:21
