About the Image(s)

This old church is tucked away in the woods in Eminence MO. First I straightened and cropped the original, then I adjusted the tonal contrast, details and calibrated the colors. lastly, I dodged and burned to get the lighting effect I wanted. Settings: f/22, 1/100 sec., ISO 2000, 16 mm focal length and using a tripod. With a tripod, I didn't need the ISO so high, but I had it set on Auto - something I never do anymore.

An excellent image of a time long, long ago. I like the small trees growing around the church blocking the doorways suggesting this church has been abandoned for quite some time. Your post processing also bought out the moody and somewhat eerie feeling very nicely. I can't offer any suggestions that might improve it. it's just perfect!   Posted: 12/02/2020 10:12:07

Another photo well done by Cindy! With the green grass, black trees and white building you make the whole greater than the sum of its parts. Well done.   Posted: 12/04/2020 13:57:08

A nice one, but I'd prefer a portrait mode, better suited for the tall building and would leave some air on top, (since you crop out the wide part any way), wish you have another capture with vertical view.   Posted: 12/18/2020 10:19:24

The abandoned church certainly looks much better after your processing. I especially like the orange awnings over the doors. The steeple with the pattern in the wood is so interesting. I think I would make a vertical crop to get rid of as many side trees as I could and add a little sky at the top and emphasize the lines in the wood of the whole church.   Posted: 12/19/2020 07:41:34

I want to know more about this place. Was it really a church? How about a school - one door for girls, the other for boys? A statement about the decline of a tiny segment of society. Did you go inside? Photographically, there is nothing I can add.   Posted: 12/19/2020 13:27:41

Yes, I believe it was a church. I went inside, but it was bare except for an old chair.   Posted: 12/29/2020 11:41:39

It is a very beautiful image of old church in the woods. The small trees grow in front of the church almost look like imprinting on the wall of the church!
