About the Image(s)

This photo was taken at sunrise on East Beckwith Mountain in the vicinity of Aspen, Colorado in the fall. My camera was a Nikon D810 and 24-70 mm lens on a tripod. The settings were f/13 at 1/8 sec and ISO 100. The time of year was fall and I wanted to retain the vibrant fall colors, so I raised the exposure and shadows settings and lowered the highlights. I increased the vibrance especially the yellow to bring out the Aspen trees color and to enhance the color in the sky.

Wow! What a great fall image. The yellow aspen trees and the morning sunlight hitting the top of the mountain in the background would have made an excellent image alone, but the additional reflection just makes it exceptional. Nice clouds, too!   Posted: 11/01/2020 19:13:32

Very well done, Phyllis. It is a pleasure to set back and enjoy. I don't know how you could improve this image!!   Posted: 11/02/2020 10:57:45

So many beautiful layers in this lovely scene which you have handled perfectly. I like that the colors are not oversaturated and that reflection just makes it even better. I would not change a thing. Beautiful image. Frame this right away!   Posted: 11/07/2020 09:34:59

very complex layers of colors, love them. I might just stand there and miss the shot :)
while look at it some more, I might try to downplay a bit of mountain top, and its reflection, so that they are stand out, but not too over power the mid-range elements. Just a thought.   Posted: 11/09/2020 17:11:22

The mountain is brightly lit at dawn an it put the rest of the image into shadow on my camera. So my goal was to tone down the mountain and raise the shadows where the aspen tree color was. Thanks for your comments!   Posted: 11/22/2020 12:18:53

When this image was coming up on my monitor, I thought it was Ayer's Rock in Australia. Alas, the surrounding trees and hills quickly ruled that out! An interesting, complex image; I am unable to offer any suggestions for improvement.   Posted: 11/19/2020 20:37:27

It is a great landscape image! The very clear and sharp image in the whole view. It gave a perspective in fore, middle and backgrounds.   Posted: 11/25/2020 02:34:41
