About the Image(s)

Photograph was taken two days ago on Loon Lake, a small lake in the Adirondacks of upstate New York. I had just launched my kayak and was immediately struck by the clouds. I used my 10 year-old Olympus Tough 8000, a waterproof camera that I always have with me on the water and hiking. I left the bow of my boat in the frame - I feel it adds a reference landmark, to say nothing of its bright color. I'm not as pleased with my photo as I was with the original scene, which nearly knocked off my water sandals. But, I suppose the picture is "not bad". I think the vignetting works with the image. Minimal color tweaking in Picasa

I like the relaxing nature of this image, and I wish I were there now. The composition is well captured with the red tip of the kayak balancing the middle-right focal point of the small hill and contrasting the blue sky. The clouds, comprising of 2/3rds of the image, appear to be the main subject, but it is unfortunate that their highlights are somewhat overblown. Maybe you can bring back some detail in those areas or even clone in some of the blown-out highlights with other parts of the clouds.   Posted: 06/02/2020 07:07:24

Pretty sky; I can see why you wanted the photo. For me, cropping out the canoe and leaving us with a nice sky and a sliver of land and trees would be better. I agree with David that working the clouds some more would improve the photo.   Posted: 06/04/2020 13:37:34

Very peaceful and calming. I like the tip of the kayak showing and wish there was even a bit more. I don't think you need so much sky and by cropping the top and a little off the right side, you don't need to worry about the big clouds which are blown out.   Posted: 06/04/2020 17:07:19

But the clouds are what drew me to photograph the scene in the first place! I realize some clouds are blown out but that happens on a bright day! My jaw hit the deck of my kayak when I saw the clouds.   Posted: 06/18/2020 12:55:56

very nice and calm scenery, perhaps a bit much on sky, but I tried to block out some sky (As if I crop out some sky), then the water seems calm and blend, thus lack the interest. I'm at a loss there. sorry.   Posted: 06/17/2020 17:38:06

The scene on the lake must have been incredible. I like how the kayak is a colorful spot in the foreground. But I would have liked to see more of the kayak in the water to give the image more interest. The view of the clouds that seem to go for miles in the distance is interesting but they are blown out. You should see if you can reduce the exposure. Lovely, mountain water scene!   Posted: 06/17/2020 22:56:07

A very beautiful natural landscape image. The red triangle shaped kayak is a good balance with the water and clouded sky. But it takes a seconds to figure out what it is. I also feel the clouds were a bit too bright and sky occupied too more space.
