Midford Sound New Zealand by Bai Chuang Shyu

March 2020 - Midford Sound New Zealand

About the Image(s)

I was attending the International conference of the Neuron and Brain diseases held in New Zealand in the last November. After meeting I was together with my wife went to visit the Milford Sound. Milford Sound lies deep within Fiordland National Park, New Zealand’s most stunning natural attraction. With its magical combination of mountain peaks, ink-dark waters and superb dramatic forest-clad cliffs, it is a remarkable opportunity to experience the beauty of this pristine scenic destination. I was holding my Nikon D-810 with hand on the boat. I took a series photo of this scene with f/8, 1/125 sec and ISO of 250. I then stitched together of 9 of these photos in PhotoShop with Photomerge function. The post-processing of local enhancement and saturation was done with viviza2 and finally cropped in PhotoShop.

I like the moody atmosphere of your panorama. The low-hanging clouds give the image a powerful feeling. Well captured! I have no suggestions to improve the image.   Posted: 03/03/2020 10:12:36

An emotional image what with the looming clouds, sharp mountain and the ship heading right at us! I almost want to get out of the way. I'm torn between the photo as is and one in which a lot more detail of the ship is presented by waiting for the ship to come closer or moving the camera to right. I would love to have been standing there with you.   Posted: 03/03/2020 12:31:02

The curve of the mountains, the clouds moving in, the gray water and the overall subdued colors give the image a lot of drama. Then, you have the ship moving straight toward the camera and the ship has bright colors. Well composed with the ship in the right third of the frame. Very nice.   Posted: 03/05/2020 07:46:43

I like it, a well composed and captured one.

In my mind, there're so much details there for visitor to wonder and to appreciate. I would think right and back of the frame is what the prize, that said, just suggest to darken a bit of the lower left stretch of dark and reflective rocks, experiment a bit.   Posted: 03/11/2020 10:54:31

You nailed it. The bit of red (a sign?) on the boat adds to the image. I can offer no suggestions.   Posted: 03/13/2020 22:16:10

Excellent composition and an interesting image. The clouds add a lot of interest and moody feeling. The ship is perfectly placed and makes a great focal point.   Posted: 03/18/2020 16:19:37
