Crossing the Finish Line at Keeneland by Cindy Lynch

January 2020 - Crossing the Finish Line at Keeneland

About the Image(s)

Taken at the races in Lexington, KY. I usually shoot on aperature priority but decided to try shutter priority of 1/2500. It was a cloudy day, and the photo was very dark, but I lightened it in Camera Raw, along with using the clarity slider. Settings: f/5.6, ISO 100 and 62 mm focal length.

Very nice capture for such a cloudy day. I'm surprised you were able to get 1/2500 sec at ISO 100 to stop the action. I like the way the horse on the left is kicking up the dirt, and you captured the legs of all the horses in the air in similar positions. Looks like it was close race between the two front runners.   Posted: 01/02/2020 16:27:44

Another well done photo! I like the frozen action that shows flying tails, hoofs off the ground and dirt flying, all mixed in with plenty of color. All this and the background is sharp too. ("Thank goodness" for camera RAW.)   Posted: 01/03/2020 12:23:40

This is a stunning photo. I love the motion captured in the way the horses are leaning forward and the jockey's have their heads down. The colors are bright and eye-catching. The cloudy sky is a good backdrop. Trying shutter priority was a good idea!!   Posted: 01/04/2020 23:54:57

Nice enough picture but so often seen. Would one or three horses have been better composition? The old odd number rule.   Posted: 01/16/2020 21:43:41

It is amazed that the speeding horses are caught in a very sharp and focused image. I thought that it may be even better if there is moving blurred background.   Posted: 01/22/2020 00:03:09

A very sharp and clean image with a hint of movement of kicked up sand/dirt.   Posted: 01/22/2020 22:06:09
