About the Image(s)

I revisited my file of images from Old Car City for this month's image. I liked the lighting of this image with the dappled light patterns, and HDR problem.

It was shot with My Canon 7D on a tripod with a Canon 24-105 zoom lens. The exposure was my auto setting of +2, 0 & -2. It was processed in DXO HDR Efex Pro2. It required some additional work in Photoshop where I had to clone out a highlight on the yellow fender. The edged were darkened with a vignette and an added light gray stroke.

There are some great colors and textures in this photo. I wish the area up top was not so bright, really grabs my eyes. Really like the patterns in the yellow fender with the contrasting red around the light. I think that is your subject and the rest of the area could be toned down a little.   Posted: 01/15/2021 11:44:26

Good point. My attention was drawn to the highlight on the fender. I'm looking into using Luminosity Masks. Thanks for noticing that.   Posted: 01/15/2021 12:48:41

Interesting observations. While my eye does go up to the top eventually, I find the yellow and red of the fender-headlight area to be strong enough that it holds me well. Like Brad, the patterning in the yellow fender adds a lot to the interest in that area. There is a bit of orange in the back of the cab and hood, so combined with the green of the leaves there is a nice run through the associated tones of that part of the color wheel.   Posted: 01/16/2021 10:41:30
