Douglas County by Bob Patrick

October 2020 - Douglas County

About the Image(s)

Nikon D800E, Sigma 24-105 at 105 F11 1/200 sec. ISO 100. One shot, tone mapped in HDR Effex free download. Lots of time cleaning up sensor dust. (Must be fried in.) Cloned out some stumps and a portion of a rusted fuel tank.
Subject is an abandoned farm house in Douglas County, WA. Image taken on Sept. 6, this year. The next day the County was engulfed in a range fire. Don't know, yet, if this place survived.

Looks like on one cared to take care of the roof - but like thousands of old locations in the west, and likely elsewhere have gone through this and eventually, simply gone. So, it is interesting when you take an image of the broken past, and then you realize it exists no more. This image has a nice composition and the tree adds interest. You did well removing items and I can't see where they could have been so good job on that. The colors are good, with strong blue sky and it has a nice tone to it that borders soft, but not enough to be soft. This one is a good find.   Posted: 10/11/2020 22:06:45

Cool old building and nice photograph and natural looking process. Perhaps a pinch more contrast and the cloning looks good.   Posted: 10/12/2020 14:54:00

The blend look very good. The image does look like you could push the mid tones open by a full stop without risking the feel that you have. These old abandoned places have a character of their own and I think you captured this one well.   Posted: 10/12/2020 17:01:54
