Beautiful Day in Yellowstone by Max Burke, APSA

June 2020 - Beautiful Day in Yellowstone

About the Image(s)

Image taken in Yellowstone in February 2017 on a perfect weather moment. I have some good image of animals but thought this scenic turned out well thanks to the weather and Auora HDR 2019. My only changes were reducing some of the blue in the snow, NIK noise control adjustment and opening shadows slightly. Taken with Nikon 750 with 24-120 2.8 lens. Used f8 at ISO 500 with 50mm opening. 2 stop and 3 images w/base speed was 1/800.

A good rendition of a snow scene. You removed enough of the blue but left just a bit to give it a cold appearance. I would be tempted to cut about 25% off of the foreground to improve the composition and bringing the horizon line down.   Posted: 06/06/2020 17:04:42

The technical aspects and the blend look good to me. I get that nice, crisp feel of a Yellowstone winter from it. I'm in agreement with Bill relative to the idea of a crop up from the bottom, but I might go even more than 25% to half the area between the bottom and the tress (which if Bill was talking about 25% of the frame would be about the same)>   Posted: 06/08/2020 20:00:16

I have resized the foreground and appreciate the suggestion as it helps the image in a pano look which I usually prefer. Max   Posted: 06/10/2020 18:30:54

Beautiful scene and I definitely prefer the cropped image. Hopefully some day I will be able to visit Yellowstone and the Tetons during the winter months if not very early spring when I retire and travel the country in an RV.   Posted: 06/29/2020 11:15:19
