About the Image(s)

This one is an abandoned service station on Canyon Road, south of Ellensburg, WA. Nov. 17, 19, 3:29PM. By chance the owner was on site and gave permission for me to photograph. D800E, Sigma 24-105 at 24mm, ISO 400, 1/320 sec at F5.6. Single exposure tone mapped in HDR Effex Pro 2, Granny's Attic preset. Then adjusted crop, burned in some highlights.

It definitely comes across as abandoned and decaying. I take it that the "Granny's Attic" preset involves a sepia tone or derivative of it. That color seems to go well with this subject matter. I like the way the wall with the window feels like it is leaning in, adding to that decaying feel. Maybe a little less on the right side and burn in the one lighter board in the top left corner, but both very minor touches.   Posted: 01/12/2020 13:17:32

Good job on handling the light, both inside and outside.
I adjusted the perspective using PS Elements "Skew," just making one motion to pull the left bottom corner further to the left.   Posted: 01/20/2020 15:22:07

Pretty cool old image.. based on the location and time of day, the harsh lighting is probably appropriate. Nice detail on the inside and the tilting doesn't bother me.   Posted: 01/21/2020 10:05:21

Time to renew with this old structures. Nicely done with the HDR. My only suggestion, when processed, is watch the bright spots and if possible. This will likely be the last image of this place.   Posted: 01/22/2020 13:06:31

Interesting subject. Beautiful composition and angle of view. Nice blending. I like the retro effect and grades of sepia that added a lot to the subject. Good details both inside and outside the abandoned building with beautiful texture.   Posted: 01/31/2020 08:49:27
