Oregon Coast Sun Down by Max Burke, APSA

November 2019 - Oregon Coast Sun Down

About the Image(s)

This image was taken as the sun was within seconds of sundown September 2017. It is a five image HDR with 1 stop differences. The times were 1/20th sec to 1/321 sec. It was taken on a tripod with the Nikon D750 with 24-120 f4 lens, set at 18th sec with ISO of 100. Focal length of 55mm. I used Photomatix Pro 6 and made slight adjustments on bringing in the shadow of the larger rock and very little additional sharpening. The sky, as I recall was very close to the brilliance you see here. I was fortunate the birds stayed in place through the five shots.

Excellent image in its own right. The blend is good and the tones in the warm colors really sing. There seems to be a slight haloing around the main sea stack, which isn't that surprising given the backlighting. Your option on whether it is something to bother with. I do think I would try adding a little more contrast / clarity in the sky, possibly as afar down as the horizon. The foreground looks fine, so I wouldn't let it go into that area.   Posted: 11/16/2019 15:15:23

I love the scene! The colors pop and the low angle with the birds in the front add impact. I love the clouds and the color saturation. Perhaps a tad more contrast in the furthest wave and right stacks.

I see a face in the leftmost stack.   Posted: 11/18/2019 10:46:39

Very nice and I love the birds, really adds to the image. I think the sky could use a little more contrast as well.   Posted: 11/20/2019 11:22:48

Outstanding sunset with good composition and warm overall colors. My only negative comment is the merger of the sea stack merger on the left side. I would like to see some more space there.   Posted: 11/27/2019 12:12:45
