Bodie Aurora 2019 by Bill Buchanan, HonPSA, FGDC

October 2018 - Bodie Aurora 2019

About the Image(s)

I dug back into the files for this one. It was a typical three exposure bracket +2, -2, 0 exposure with a Canon 7D and a 24-105 mm lens. @ f8 and ISO 200.

I've give Aurora another chance. This version was processed in the newly released Aurora 2019. It was processed as their Essentials default position. I didn't try any of the many presets. I did back off the saturation just a bit and in Photoshop CC2018 I worked on the Tiff file in ACR.

A little bit of edge vignette and a edge stroke. I felt the files came out smooth and no signs of halos.

Yes, a nicely smooth blend. I can't tell if there is any "grit" in the sky, but would back off on the structure in the foreground grasses. I think the added detail is excellent in the buildings. I debated a bit on whether the half windows on either edge bothered me and decided that the left side did but the right side was not an issue. If this is just basic processing in the new Aurora, the program looks to have some real potential.   Posted: 10/08/2018 15:58:27

Clear as stated with good lines and detail. The wood colors come out quite clearly with the yellow-reddish-brown woods contrasting the older aged wood on the left side. I too would liked to have seen the total window on the right side to more or less complete the view on that side, usually where my vision ends and holds.   Posted: 10/19/2018 16:20:38

Nice example of this software for tone mapping. The buildings look crisp, no halos, the sky looks good. The foreground grasses seem a little too sharp.
The overall composition that you chose make the viewer uncomfortable, you have nice calming barns and chose to crop at both windows. Rules are meant to be broken...   Posted: 10/25/2018 00:12:11

Very nicely done image with great colors and sharpness. Nitpicking, but I would crop some off the left to get rid of the partial window.   Posted: 10/25/2018 14:44:19

Blend looks really good, hopefully they have figured out the PC issues you were experiencing in the past.   Posted: 10/25/2018 22:14:10
