About the Image(s)

This is a 4 shot HDR in Arches NP, Sony a7s and Voightlander 10mm at f/11, processed in Aurora HDR. The image was cropped to more a spare to remove some of the right side, nice cliffs but no sky. One of the challenges with this lens is the edges since the image is not circular at 10mm. The primary subject should have been more centered when I shot it and then crop both left and right. The majority of the adjustments were in the shadow recovery and hopefully natural saturation.

I like the overall effect. The perspective looks good for a lens that wide. The sun star is distorted, but in this case I think it and the flare add something to the image. Most of the tones look pretty good, but the main rock face is showing a little too magenta on my monitor. I'm also picking up on a faint but detectable halo along the rock / sky junction. It is most noticeable at the right edge of the image.   Posted: 07/07/2017 14:23:45

Good catch! The color correction was a bit tricky with this one, still playing with it. I thought it might have been the chromatic aberration removal algorithm but I did a second run with a similar image and it was still there.   Posted: 07/07/2017 14:35:47

I think the general color looks fine. I don't think the butte is a simple matter of pulling the saturation on the magentas back. I'm guessing you may have to semi neutralize the color there and then use something like a solid color layer based on the foreground with the blend mode set to Color and masked to just the butte to get near what you may want.   Posted: 07/07/2017 15:35:07

Interesting, I have never tried anything I like that..   Posted: 07/07/2017 17:56:08

As I process the images from out west, the rocks have been challenge and the halo issue has popped up with these very contrasty images. I have been recently playing with Luminosity Masks, these 2 images are the original and a modified version.   Posted: 07/07/2017 21:37:11

And here is it processed in Aurora and a little CC help.   Posted: 07/07/2017 21:39:17

Strong image with the rocks leaning and the leaning tree in the foreground to give depth. The halos do not bother me, as this can be a natural effect with the backlighting. I like the color of the rocks better in the last image that you posted.   Posted: 07/17/2017 18:44:57

I have done these SW images so many times and it is not easy to get the colors just right without a tendency to oversaturate, as they are almost naturally oversaturated, depending on the lighting. Tlhe coloron your Aurora sample does seem to show the colors one might get with low light and shadow. I have no problem with the original shadowing and color, even though could be eased off slightly. The 10 mm lens does throw angels off some as the hills do lean, but the image and I feel even the sun were done quite well.   Posted: 07/18/2017 23:45:10

I love the sun distortion. I love the sun rays (and at f11!)

There are is some halo around the rocks, the very top middle especially, the rest is mild and not distracting because the image itself has so much drama

which luminosity masking do you like best?
what about Seim?   Posted: 07/24/2017 22:59:09

This is first time I have had any halo issues with Aurora. I am sure it is because of the high contrast between rocks and sky.

The Voightlander does amazing star effects!
I have been using Lumenzia, which I like and it is a learning process.   Posted: 07/25/2017 20:29:57

I really like the star effect and lens flare. I think I have tried to photograph that tree in Arches but never with that perspective. The shadows of the tree add some nice balance too.   Posted: 07/28/2017 15:10:31
