About the Image(s)

My girlfriend and I spend a lot of time driving around exploring various areas near Lake Erie (I live in Ohio and she lives in Pennsylvania). This shot was taken while traveling through Northwest Pennsylvania near Oil City. During our random travels we tend to take a lot of dirt roads just to go see things that aren't typically shown on any tourist guides or anything like that. This was one of those roads. We were watching as storm clouds were slowly starting to roll in and I decided to hop out of the car in the middle of the road and snap a few quick pictures.
Shot with my Canon EOS 80D, F4, iso-100, 1/500 with Canon 18-135 lens.

I like your perspective here Alex. The symmetry of the fields split by the dirt road leading us to a group of trees pointing towards the foreboding sky tells a nice story. I feel the stark emptiness of the image works well given the approaching storm. I also think your balance and composition is good. You might consider cloning out the black item (tractor?) on the left as it is somewhat of a distraction.   Posted: 01/05/2021 10:18:36

I love dirt roads. Matter of fact, I grew up on one and remember my Mother getting so upset when they proposed paving it. That's another story, got off topic.
To me this image would be more impactful if you cropped the sky down by 1/2. The subject is the road and farmland. I would also check the WB, it appears a bit off to me.   Posted: 01/05/2021 12:41:39

Where do you want the emphasis? What is the most important thing for your viewer to see here? The road is a strong leading line. It leads to the horizon and that is ok. The group of trees at the road meets horizon is good. The composition may need to be adjusted. Green is good but I think that is too green. This is just a suggestion   Posted: 01/05/2021 16:43:39

I really like this image. Love the Greens and Blues. Great leading line. Good image to document this location and what was happening. I would work on making the story more dramatic. First, I thought about what is my subject, the sky or the road. I chose the sky, because you said you started to see the clouds slowly rollin in. I darkened the road, (leading line) and then I darkened the sky to making it more dramatic. I have a visual image.   Posted: 01/10/2021 15:06:28

Love feeling of being out in the country. The saturation may be a little high for some, but I tend to oversaturate. As far as composition is concerned, I think which ever you choose to be the subject I believe should be 2/3 and other 1/3. Thank you for the picturesque ride through the countryside.   Posted: 01/13/2021 12:59:21
