White House by Mark McKinney

November 2020 - White House

About the Image(s)

One of my favorite spots – Canyon De Chelly. My wife and I hired a Navajo Guide and spent all day in the
Canyon. These ruins are called the “White House”. Many many people take photos. I thought it added a story
to show someone photographing these ruins.

Pentax K 1, 40 mm. ISO 100. F 8, 1/125th second.

Very nice and interesting image. Like the way my eyes start at the left hand corner and moves to the first structure, then to the second structure, up to the curves and swirls of the rocks and brings me to the green trees and to then person with the red shirt on and I can make that circle again. Love the texture and colors. I would not change a thing.   Posted: 11/02/2020 19:17:30

Cool photo Mark. You nailed the exposure and brought out all the great detail and tones in the rocks and ruins. I feel your choice to include a fellow photographer in your image was spot on. It gives the viewer a sense of the size and the grandeur of this area. I also like the implied leading line from the photographers (one in the image, not you) camera lens to the ruins leading the viewers eye to your subject. Too bad the area needed to be fenced in but we run into those almost everywhere anymore.   Posted: 11/04/2020 08:23:18

Mark, again a wonderful shot of texture color and structure. I agree that the photographer in the photo is perfect. My eye moves back ant forth from the photographer to the ancient Structure. Then my eyes move around the surrounding structure color and texture of the Mountain. An interesting journey.   Posted: 11/10/2020 14:27:36

I love the details and texture in the wall of rock! I also appreciate the photographer being in the image as well, something I have tried to do but never seem to like my end result. The colors and tone of this whole image is fantastic.   Posted: 11/13/2020 08:09:51

The textures and tones are very nice and the gentleman taking picture with his iPhone is a sign of the times. Perhaps backing off a bit on the sharpening would help the trees on the right which I find a bit crunchy. It is a very nice image.   Posted: 11/14/2020 13:43:59
