Birds in the Rice Field by Linda M Medine

October 2020 - Birds in the Rice Field

About the Image(s)

I have a guy friend that has a hunting camp in the middle of acres of rice fields. After the rice has been harvested some of the rice is still available for birds to feed on. I was sitting on the back of a four wheel with a Tamron 150mm - 600mm lens taking this image. The trees in the background had some falls colors in them. I darkened the tress a little. I love the colors of the fall. Nikon Cropped D500, I/5000, F8, ISO 640 November 18, 2019,

A super image Linda, and to catch the birds just as they are rising adds so much impact. I can think of nothing to improve this; it is one of those that one wishes one had taken--lovely work.   Posted: 10/05/2020 09:02:12

I really like looking at this photo. I feel it is so well balanced in terms of color and space--the golden rice under the blue sky with all of those birds flying overhead. I also like those fall looking trees in the background. I think they give a nice separation between the rice and the flock.
After reading your comments I wonder how rice farmer ever gets to harvest any rice with all of the "flying competition" for the rice.
What kind of bird are they? Gulls?   Posted: 10/06/2020 17:11:19

This is a very nice landscape. If you had had the opportunity, it would have be great to be able to move a bit to the left to line up the rows . You might consider a higher crop, I am not sure you need everything on the left. Just a thought.   Posted: 10/19/2020 11:51:17

This is a good nature photo that tells a story and captures a special moment in early fall. The composition is good and I like the reflections in the rice field. The birds in flight are spectacular.   Posted: 10/19/2020 17:33:19
