About the Image(s)

I had been teaching meteorology to air traffic controllers for years. One of the main dangers we taught was the mountain wave effect. On a good day this is characterised by a lens shaped cloud - lenticular cloud. Up to a few weeks ago I had never seen one of these clouds for real. Then we went to the roof terrace of our hotel in Arequipa just after breakfast, and there it was. The effect only lasted for about 30 minutes.

Eos M3, EF-S 55-250 at 135, ISO100, f8, 1/800. Processed in LR Classic mainly using the dehaze and clarity sliders.

Mike, its interesting knowing the story behind why people decide to take a particular photo. Thanks for sharing. Its simple but stunning. I wonder if cropping a little off the top may increase the focus on the mountain and its sunhat. Nice work.   Posted: 03/18/2019 22:02:08

A very special capture. Wonderful color. A great a real feeling of just how tall this mountain is. I agree with Toni. I would g=crop some more off the top of the photo.   Posted: 03/19/2019 16:49:06

Beautiful ethereal shot. The subject you described makes it even more fascinating. The mountain framed by the clouds top and bottom is also very, very nice. I agree with Mark about the crop. The hardest decision would then be whether to make it like a long panoramic or clip off part of the mountain, possibly from the right. What a neat image knowing what I know now. Maybe this what what confused the flight of the Boeing 737 Max although the say it was a faulty part or new confusing navigation system.   Posted: 03/19/2019 17:36:47

Many thanks for the comments. I'm looking to export this as a pdf file into Acrobat, then use the tile part of the print driver to make an image over 4 x A3 sheets, now I will look at cropping and making a panorama as well - many thanks for the suggestions.   Posted: 03/26/2019 15:57:48

Love this image. I think the contrast is very good. The texture of the mountain to the cloud is gorgeous. I can look at this image for a very long time. It is mesmerizing. Great storyteller image too. Love what you did with this image.   Posted: 03/28/2019 10:23:27
