Time for a Back Scratch by Holly Moore, PPSA

September 2020 - Time for a Back Scratch

About the Image(s)

This photo was taken at the Oklahoma City Zoo this spring. It was taken with a Canon 5D Mark IV with a 70-300 lens. The focal length was 200. Exposure 1/320, f/7.1 and ISO 800. The bear quickly caught my attention when he stood up and leaned against the tree for a nice scratch. Thanks for your comments.

A nice image, as the bear is looking directly at you. Picture is sharp and the white nails stand out. The only suggestion I have, is to tone down the green at the top right and left side or blur them out a little. This would make the bear's face stand out from the grass.   Posted: 09/06/2020 15:22:39

Very nice photo. I think if you removed the tree it would be better.   Posted: 09/06/2020 15:57:14

Thanks Michael. I never ever thought about removing the tree. I will try it!   Posted: 09/07/2020 17:26:57

I like this photograph as it is and would not change anything except possibly making the background out of focus. It looks like this bear does this frequently enough that it has worn the grass away to bare dirt where it stands while rubbing against the tree.   Posted: 09/09/2020 17:40:36

Thanks Keith. He was quite entertaining and yes I think this is one of his favorite activities!   Posted: 09/13/2020 19:55:39

Pretty shot of this guy and agree with other suggestions. I might also darken his chest a bit where it appears he is balding unless this is lighter fur.   Posted: 09/16/2020 15:55:08

I like this image. It made me smile just thinking of the bear scratching its back. I would try burning and burring the background to make the bear stand out more. Also try burning the top of the bear's head a bit.   Posted: 09/16/2020 21:45:45
