September 2020 - Cuban Woman

About the Image(s)

This photo was shot with my iPhone 8 Plus. This was taken in Cuba last year. I was in a restaurant by the bar when I noticed this stunning woman sitting smoking a cigar. I did not have my Canon camera with me at that time so I used my iPhone 8 Plus. I asked her if I could take her photo and she obliged. The settings were 1/120 sec; f8; ISO 25. The flame of the cigar did not come out as I hoped therefore I manipulated it a bit in Photoshop with color. Any suggestions on how this could be improved on would be appreciated. I brightened her face just a bit to bring out her eyes. The lighting in the room was perfect as was the wall behind her which I had to clean just a bit.

A nice portrayed ,colors look good ,but I would do something with the cigar. Remove the red light at the end of the cigar, leave it blank or try a light orange in spots. I would try to remove the loose hairs on the top of her head.   Posted: 09/06/2020 15:29:30

Thanks. I tried an orange but I applied to the whole area. Will try spotting. Thought of removing the loose hairs but wanted to give a natural look. But you are correct in that it takes away from a clean look.   Posted: 09/06/2020 16:03:58

The cigar looks fake. Their is no flame or smoke and there appears to be a wire in the center. Other than that pretty amazing for a cell phone.   Posted: 09/07/2020 08:34:12

I like her demeanor and her position in the frame. She appears very relaxed. It's a great image for an iPhone. I agree that the wild hairs could be removed and I wish the cigar was real.   Posted: 09/07/2020 17:25:12

This is an excellent photograph. The cigar tip looks too red to me and it seems like there should be some smoke near the cigar. I just have an aversion to cigars that is especially strong when it comes to women smoking. However, I understand that is a custom in Cuba.   Posted: 09/09/2020 17:33:11

Love this photograph and agree about the cigar. I also like her hair just the way it is - Cuba, high humidity it happens!   Posted: 09/16/2020 15:36:03

Thanks for your comments. I will try putting in some smoke and work on the color. I agree that the cigar Tim looks fake. That was a struggle to get the right color in the pallet. Will keep trying. Thanks again.   Posted: 09/18/2020 07:19:03
