Cold Creek by Michael Braunstein

January 2020 - Cold Creek

About the Image(s)

This photo was taken near Cold Creek,Nevada. It is about one hour north of Las,Vegas. I was there to photograph wild mustangs and stopped on the way back to shoot the Joshua trees. I used a canon 5DMark4 with a Sigma 24-105 lens. The settings were ISO160, F8 and 1/250th hand held. Processing was very little with Luminar. I brightened it with the AI slider and did an S curve for contrast.

Michael, this is absolutely gorgeous! Love the composition, the sky, and how everything is so very sharp.... well done.   Posted: 01/12/2020 14:32:44

I especially like the sharpness of the tree in the foreground and the color of the sky. It conveys the mood of an impending change in weather. Very interesting photo.   Posted: 01/12/2020 17:14:22

Hi Michael. Very nice image. Have you played with Luminar Ai sky replacement? You can get a completely different view of your image, from a bright sky, to stars in the night.   Posted: 01/13/2020 13:01:29

The new 4 is great. I'm still playing with it.   Posted: 01/13/2020 16:04:16

This photograph puzzles my mind; is the white snow or sand. The Joshua tree is fascinating, but the white spaces in the image keep pulling my eyes away from the tree. My eyes are also attracted to the mountains. I might have used a wide aperture for a shallow depth of field and set the focus point on the Joshua tree causing the mountains to be out of focus. My eyes might be playing tricks on me; I need cataract surgery that I will probably have in February. I was scheduled for cataract surgery today, but the doctor decided he will not do any more surgery and will retire at the end of 2020; he canceled my surgery. I have an appointment to see another ophthalmologist.   Posted: 01/14/2020 01:30:15

It is all snow. I like my pictorial shots to be tack sharp. Good luck with the surgery. It is an easy surgery. The intraocular lens was invented by a surgeon in Las Vegas.   Posted: 01/14/2020 06:02:07
