About the Image(s)

Technology has drawn our attention away from beauty. I recall one night enjoying the milky way while camping with the family. I came back from star gazing to share my enthusiasm regarding the vividness of the stars. My family looked up at the stars with their blown out night vision from looking at the campfire, said "nice" and went back to what they were doing on their phones. The distractedness of phones and life often keeps people from enjoying the beauty in front of them. I had made this composite awhile ago but it didn't feel done. When I opened it up I thought it might be more impactful if I desaturated the beautiful sunset to emphasize the unnatural light and its impact.

I really like this composite Brad!!
Nice job with the color transition.
The only think I wonder about is whether you want to clone out the branch above the walker...
Otherwise, great mood and story.   Posted: 04/10/2021 14:15:33

Kathy, That is an excellent suggestion, if I can clone it out without too many artifacts it is definitely an improvement. Thanks!   Posted: 04/10/2021 14:24:07

Yep, that's definitely the challenge... I noticed as I was playing with it. But really great either way.   Posted: 04/10/2021 14:30:07

So good! This is a wonderful composite. It says sooo much.   Posted: 04/11/2021 15:53:58

Hi Brad,
I'm thinking that a crop would focus the image better. I'd probably leave the branch, but I think this is a tighter composition.   Posted: 04/12/2021 15:27:13

Hi Brad,
I get the feeling from looking at this that the person walking into darkness is unaware of where they are going. I like Kathy's rendition with less branches. It definitely speaks to our obsessions with technology. One thought would be to enhance the dark area to look more fog-like.   Posted: 04/18/2021 23:45:41

Yes, I too think we get distracted by our phones. The desaturation works. As always, you pack meaning into your composites.

Tom Kredo's version appeals to me because of it's simplification   Posted: 04/24/2021 13:57:52

I love the thought process behind the image -- we are all definitely caught up too much to enjoy life and nature and notice the beauty all around us!

I like Kathy's edit with the one branch removed.

Tom's version has a wonderful appeal because of it's simplification.   Posted: 04/26/2021 12:51:54
