About the Image(s)

The base image for this photo was taken this summer in the Eastern Sierra. Mount Ritter is a very powerful presence and I wanted to capture the awe I felt camping in its presence. The image was enhanced in Topaz and the rest was just the use of selective dodging and partial desaturation to enhance a magical feel

Brad, it is always fun each month to see where your fertile imagination has taken you and this month is no exception. Cutting out your pointing hand and combining it into a composite and then applying a Topaz filter really produced a powerful image.

Just a thought - could you have applied the topaz filter to the Mount Ridder image before adding the hand or selecting the hand and not applying the filter to it? As it is now, the hand looks a little weird with grass growing out of it.

Great creative work as always!   Posted: 01/10/2021 14:50:11

Henry, Thanks for the feedback. I did apply topaz only to the background. The hand was added later and I erased away part of it to reveals the creepy texture on the wrist. As Kathy says I did what "spoke to (you)" I do have a version without the texture on the hand and it is more traditional but I liked how the texture rubbed me. Ultimately these explorations are a personal journey.   Posted: 01/14/2021 17:33:41

Brad,
I love the bold colors and lines of your composition! You definitely gave it a "magical" feel.

I like Henry's question and feel that this could have been treated any number of ways. There are so many choices and you picked the one that spoke to you.   Posted: 01/14/2021 17:16:36

Kathy, Thank you for the delicate way you handled this question. As I mentioned in my response to Henry it is a personal taste thing. My kids generally prefer my less "weird" versions but I got to be me!   Posted: 01/14/2021 17:35:05

Absolutely!! You have a great creative vision so we all just have to consider and then we get to be us!   Posted: 01/14/2021 17:42:25

A lovely image Brad! I think you've handled the blending of the two images very well, and having the light emanating from the fingertip is a nice touch. Magical is the proper description!   Posted: 01/17/2021 00:03:07
