About the Image(s)

This months entry was based on a single image. I find it fun to take a good image and make it more intense. I'm stilling playing with my new toy, topaz studio 2. I applied a 3 different filters and selectively blended them in different layers. Then I played selectively with colors using layer masks. I wanted to capture that feeling of aliveness that brings me into the moment when I am photographing flowers

As you know I enjoy Topaz Labs and use quite a few of their filters. Nice work here and love the glowing feeling.   Posted: 11/10/2020 01:32:15

Such a beautiful flower! I love the ultra-rich colors and the light.

It's a little sad for me that the flower is bending away from the light. Perhaps I'll be an optimist and imagine it's going to turn around.   Posted: 11/10/2020 16:21:32

Peggy, Thanks for visiting site 41 and for your comments. I've been moving more and more away from conventions. I liked the idea of backlighting the flower and liked how the stellate quality of the light reinforced that quality in the flower. Most of these discoveries come by accident (don't tell anyone) and I just go with it if it resonates.   Posted: 11/15/2020 21:56:22

I think your instincts are excellent, Brad, and you are wise to trust them.   Posted: 11/15/2020 21:59:29

I really like the direction you're going Brad! I, too, love Topaz and use it to "finish" my composites so they have an overall unified look. I think you accomplished that here!
Kudos!
I agree with Peggy that the flower is shy and missing the opportunity to shine in the light.   Posted: 11/14/2020 18:03:30

Kathy, I haven't yet experimented with Topaz as a finishing step. So far it's been the beginning step to mix things up and get the creative juices flowing.   Posted: 11/15/2020 21:57:30

This is wonderful. I just treated myself to Topaz so it's great to get some inspiration.   Posted: 11/15/2020 13:51:30

Maryellen, It was other PSA members who shared their images with Topaz filters applied that sold me on it. I love having another tool in my tool box to help stimulate creativity   Posted: 11/15/2020 21:58:29

Brad, I'm amazed at how 'alive' your image has become in Topaz Studio 2. Your processing sounds quite intricate and involved to achieve a beautiful result. I have no suggestions to what is a strikingly beautiful image. Bravo!   Posted: 11/16/2020 16:47:42

Henry, Thank you for your kind words. I've been playing around with photoshop for 30 years. In the old days there were very few filters and I had to scan each image at a service bureau, which was expensive. Gradually new tools came along to play with images. Topaz is the first upgrade on filters I've had in over a decade and it is pretty powerful. Most images I do without filters and its just a bunch of playing with the image. I hope you are continuing to enjoy your explorations.   Posted: 11/16/2020 17:08:50

Brad, I am enjoying my explorations. You have been working in Photoshop for 30 years. Wow! What experience you have built up.   Posted: 11/16/2020 17:45:03

I like the different approach, with the light coming in and lighting the flower from behind, warming it. I love the lines in the flower petals themselves. Wowza. The front of the flower has a color cast with purples that could be corrected with a color blend mode. Personally, I am not a fan of noise/grain but it works here.

I love Topaz products and I am a topaz affiliate. You can enter the discount use code breaphotos for 15% off Topaz products here https://web.topazlabs.com/ref/130 -- they have some good black Friday-cybermonday sales going on.   Posted: 11/29/2020 22:34:27

Lisa, Thanks. The purple color cast was conscious and came after cranking up the vibrance. I have a version without it too, I liked how it felt next to the rich green.   Posted: 11/30/2020 14:02:07
