About the Image(s)

This shot was inspired by my time at The Lost Coast in Mendocino California. I did a variety of selective adjustments to the water separate from the sky and then added the surfer. I positioned him near a planet as I liked how the brighter light in the sky seemed to take on a different meaning with the juxtaposition to the surfer. And for those careful observers I did move the planet a little to help balance the picture.

Very creative and imaginative and so well composited. The colour blending is great.
I love how you positioned the little bright star/planet at the end of the surfboard, it looks like it's blasting him along.   Posted: 10/05/2018 19:26:53

Brad, this is really a wonderful job of composting a surfer across the sky! The surfer really looks to be a part of the background.

Would it be helpful to clone out the stars that shine on the surfer?   Posted: 10/10/2018 19:05:27

Henry, Those are actually snow flakes from the original photo, I thought they helped it integrate him into the scenery.   Posted: 10/10/2018 20:52:54

Brad, the snowflakes do help integrate him into the scenery and as such my comment to clone them off his clothing is incorrect.
Great photo.   Posted: 10/13/2018 11:52:23

Fun concept and nice composite.

I'd like to know more about your choices ( you had so many)

I like the color in the Milky Way shot and wonder about your choice to desaturate the sky in your finished photo.   Posted: 10/11/2018 12:36:56

Kathy, Not sure exactly how to answer your question. Often with photos like this I start with one image, in this case the beach scene. I really liked the feel of it but not the color. After a few different adjustments I started to feel good about the sky but liked the bluer hue of the water. I then decided to split them up and I liked the feel. I try not to use my intellect too much with these decisions, rather see how it makes me feel. I tried many different positions and sizes for the surfer. He initially was in the Milky way but thought it balanced the photo better when I placed him on the left side. After I moved him to where the planet was he seemed a little off in position. Since this is clearly not real I took the liberty of moving Venus to where I wanted it (or is that Mars?). I have another surfer image I posted on my other site, group 54. A similar process was done there in that case I blended three images and played with the rays of light being the energy source.   Posted: 10/11/2018 17:04:22

Very creative!
You made a good selection of the subject and good job bringing it all together.
This is a taste thing, how can I say how much garlic to add, but I personally like the blue colors of the water (and sky) to the desaturated colors.   Posted: 10/24/2018 23:45:11
