About the Image(s)

This photo was taken with the Olympus OMD EM-1, Mark II with the Panasonic 100-400 mm lens (equivalent to 200-800 mm) on Shutter Priority (not sure what that was as it doesn't show on the breakdown) with an ISO of 640 and Aperture of 7.1 at the full 400mm range, which pulls it in at 800mm on Pattern with the flash on the camera. Very pleased with the camera/lens combination and still learning how to use it!

Didn't do a whole lot to this one. As you can see the original was way too dark, so I went into Photoshop/Image/Adjustments/Shadows and Highlights to bring out the features and then went into Curves and did a little more contrast and that is about it! Added the inner stroke and outer stroke and canvas and signature.

good seeing. the bird does seem too dark. Possibly adding texture to bird feathers with brush marks might bring it forward.   Posted: 07/11/2017 08:03:31

Black and white was a good choice. I agree with Charles' comment about the darkness. I would crop in closer to the bird to increase the focus on it. I like the frame choices.   Posted: 07/11/2017 19:50:39

The raven is dark and mysterious. I like the way the tree branches draw us into him. I like it the way it is.   Posted: 07/20/2017 12:55:47

Thanks Tony and all. I agree with Tony's thinking on the tree branches drawing you into the 'star' of the show and think adding texture to the bird's feathers will make it pop a little more too!

Love the texture/detail in the tree.
The bird could use a bit more detail.. it's just a little flat.
I would darken the background on the bottom (left and right sides); not quite as dark as the original. It would keep the eye focused on the tree & bird.   Posted: 07/21/2017 10:37:04

Thanks Yolanda! Very good suggestion.

Black and White fits for this image.
I would darken the noisy blank areas and crop some off of the right side   Posted: 07/24/2017 21:15:41

Thanks Lisa! You and Yolanda had the same suggestions and that will definitely help the image. And I think you're right. Cropping a tad off the right will help take the bird off dead center.   Posted: 07/25/2017 01:15:58

Carolyn, you have done a great job in processing your image. The lighter areas of your branches could draw the eye out of the image so I suggest dodging the bottom branch and both of the Y branch end areas. I also used a light ray to bring more attention to the dark bird - just an idea. Good job.   Posted: 07/29/2017 18:18:43

I meant burn not dodge to the branch limbs...   Posted: 07/30/2017 11:24:53
