About the Image(s)

I took this at Kent Narrows where it shows the old ferry wharf and looking at all the new construction.

To work a picture has to tell some kind of a "story" for example the derelict ferry wharf contrasting the new building on the other side of the strait. The wooden piling/wharf in the foreground is obviously the prominent feature of the picture but I don't know what it is or what it was like before being demolished. The beam right at the bottom of the picture catches the eye and might be better darkened or even cropped off. The plant is missing its base and is just confusing. There is a lot going on the other side of the strait but it is too far away to see what is happening. I don't know whether you could take a shot a few yards to the right so the old wharf is pictured more sideways on. This doesn't work for me - sorry.   Posted: 04/18/2021 09:10:45

Hi Catherine, There is quite a contrast between the old beams of the wharf and the new buildings. It is hard to see the new buildings clearly and the area is very busy. The buildings seem to be misty. I wonder if it was at all possible to take a close up shot of the infrastructure holding up the beams. The various angles would be very interesting. I can see what you have tried to do and I think maybe some more saturation would help to bring out some of the colours of the new area. Would it be possible to lighten the dark areas of the beams to bring out some of the textures in the timber?   Posted: 04/18/2021 16:52:12

Hi Catherine. This is a different image from some of your other more abstract images. You seem very interested in design and texture. Do you do graphic design? I like the leading lines and the graphic quality. I would agree that the distant background is a bit busy.   Posted: 04/19/2021 17:41:45

It might work to tilt the camera down to catch more of the beams of the wharf. One isn't "supposed" to do this but sometimes it is better.   Posted: 04/20/2021 14:50:41
