Abstract Light 1 by Anne Nettles

January 2021 - Abstract Light 1

About the Image(s)

I did not include the original photo because there was not a noticeable difference between the original and the finished photo. Being a graphic designer, I love abstract, simple, graphic compositions. For me, this photograph is about shapes and textures. The only edit was moving the texture slider to the right in Lightroom. The settings were ISO 400, 213mm, f/22, 1/40sec. I did use a tripod.

This is very powerful. The texture adjustment works well. I could see it blown up big and hung on a wall. The contrast between the mass of the tower and the depth of the sky with the distant cloud bank really speaks to me. Very calming, which is a really good thing right now!   Posted: 01/08/2021 17:27:47

Anne, your skill as a graphic designer shows! This image is simple, clear and direct. I like the single window and the simple texture of the wall of what must be a lighthouse. And I like the subtle variation in the shades of the sky.

For me, I would crop the right side to make it into a vertical but I like verticals but so that's just personal preference.

Alison has a strong statement of her emotional response which I would endorse. In further contemplation I would add that I think of the winding circular narrow staircases one climbs in lighthouses.   Posted: 01/10/2021 10:15:02

Thank you Henry and Alison for your suggestions. I am contemplating trying printing on wood and metal in the very near future. Maybe this would be a good image to try on metal. I do love abstracts as much as I love taking landscapes. Sure hope we can all get out to explore some new subjects this year.

Hi Anne, what a great image this is. I love the texture that you have brought out in the building. I also would be interested in seeing the image in a portrait orientation.   Posted: 01/17/2021 06:20:30
