About the Image(s)

Still on a Xmas theme, I took this using my macro lens, aiming to get the smooth shiny texture of the bauble and some nice bokeh from the Xmas lights on the tree in an image that could perhaps be used in a Xmas editorial.
Processed in photoshop using curves adjustment layers & hue/saturation adjustment layers.

Canon 5D Mark IV
Lens: Sigma 150mm macro lens

A very pleasant Christmas picture. For me, I would take a slight trim off the left hand side to remove the branch highlights. Also the 4 large white blobs in the background are rather too prominent IMHO and better cloned out (or toned down).
This is one of those occasions where the use of a starburst filter (or a very small aperture) would really lift everything too.   Posted: 01/11/2020 12:43:39

I like this image a lot. I'm envious of the bokeh-I didn't achieve it so well with my own image, and it was one of my goals.
I agree with Andrew about cropping left.
I really like the reflection of the room and the photographer clearly visible in the ornament! But if you want to use it for a Xmas editorial or something you might want to use some effect on it to make it less visible.
I'm curious to see what the starburst effect looks like, so if you make changes, please post so we can see it! An inspiring picture!

Very nice Moira. This is just what I love to see at Christmas time and just fills me with warmth. I can see this on the cover of a magazine. Seeing the photographer in the reflection doesn't bother me, but I don't know much about publishing. You chose a beautiful ornament with beads and coloring. The bokeh effect is wonderful...very nice!!!   Posted: 01/12/2020 08:34:46

Moira, great Christmas image with wonderful great bokeh! It would be excellent as a Christmas card.

I find the four light spots distracting. Would spotting them be helpful?

Andrew, alison, and Jamie have good ideas. I think showing the photographer in the reflection is ok, something I hadn't noticed until I blew the image up.

Nice work!   Posted: 01/14/2020 10:05:11

I really like this shot. The focus in great on the little chain and top of the ornament. The colors are festive and warm. Tone down the hot white bokeh and you will have amazing bokeh for this shot.   Posted: 01/23/2020 10:44:39
