Fanny Hooe Lake by Jamie Carrier

November 2019 - Fanny Hooe Lake

About the Image(s)

We recently went to the Keweenaw Peninsula, Michigan. We were lucky enough, this time, to be there at peak leaf season. This was taken at Fanny Hooe, just outside Copper Harbor at sunrise. I actually took this with my iphone, did a little processing on the phone and not much on Light Room. I know I need to work with it a bit more...any suggestions? I appreciate all your suggestions!

Jamie, excellent capture of a sunrise mood! I can't think of any improving suggestions.   Posted: 11/13/2019 18:29:46

Thanks Henry! It was a happy accident as we were waiting for the restaurant to open up for breakfast!   Posted: 11/16/2019 06:51:34

Yes, well seen and captured, exposure for the sunrise is good. Only suggestion might be to lighten the shadow areas a touch.   Posted: 11/16/2019 10:10:47

My interpretation of this image is that the main subject is the boats, enhanced by the lovely morning sky. Therefore, I would look at brightening the boats a bit & perhaps slightly desaturating the sky and parts of the lake to draw attention more to the main subject. However its a very pleasing shot anyway.   Posted: 11/18/2019 01:12:31

Really lovely image. The matching hue of the red in the sky, on the water, and on the boats is the magic of it. But I do agree with Moira, the unifying red is emphasized a little too much, and playing with sliders a little to emphasize the boats could pay off. You could also treat the setting sun as the story and play with sliders to emphasize that. You choose.   Posted: 11/19/2019 03:59:05

Really nice. I really like the ripples in the water. I think toning down the water would draw your eye all the way to the back to the sunset.   Posted: 11/19/2019 15:59:48
