Autumn Red Valley by Bai Chuang Shyu

July 2017 - Autumn Red Valley

About the Image(s)

I was attending a conference held by the Ministry of Technology in Taichuang city. After the conference I visited the famous Autumn River Valley Ecological Park, also known as autumn red valley square. Autumn red valley landscape ecological park was built as large-scale flood detention pool park covering an area of 30,000 square meters. It was a bit raining when I arrived and find the spot for taking the picture. My Nikon D810 was on a tripod. I used various exposure time ranging from 3 sec to 20 sec, f/16 and the ISO of 400. I selected 3 photos with different exposure time for the construction of a HDR. The image was post-processed by Viveza2. Originally I used my Nikon 14-28 mm lens and took a wide angled view. But I then decided to concentrate more on the pool and lightened structures and thus cropped in PhotoShop.

Bai, this is another one of your excellent night shots! You really do capture the mood of cities at night. I have no suggestions other than the blades of grass in the lower left. To give depth of field, you could have included a little more of them so they would stand out. But if you didn't want to accent the depth of field, you could have cloned them out. I look forward to more of your landscapes.   Posted: 07/08/2017 11:26:45

Nice scene. I think I agree with Henry about the grass.
I feel that image is overall about a stop underexposed (it looks a bit dull to me) and it could also do with some increase in vibrancy of the blacks.   Posted: 07/14/2017 09:00:22

I like it the way it is, other than the blades of grass. I really like the colors in the reflection.   Posted: 07/16/2017 19:14:16

This picture is just beautiful. I love the way the lights reflect off the water. I agree with the others that I would like to see the blades of grass at the bottom removed. Very nice picture though.   Posted: 07/16/2017 20:24:04

You've done it again, Bai. This one goes in your coffee table book. I love the sinuous curve of the building that sweeps your eye from left to right, then down to the colorful water and back again. Tiny tweaks to consider:

1. As you remove the grass blades in the foreground, perhaps crop the bottom 10% of the image. You still would have the colorful water reflection, but I don't think you need so much to have an impact.
2. Similar to the first suggestion, consider cropping the left-most side of the image to remove the structure in the water (bridge footing?).
3. I agree with Andrew that upping the exposure a bit would add to the photo   Posted: 07/22/2017 14:21:56

You really have a knack for cities, water, reflections at night! I hope you have some of your photos framed and hanging at your home and or office. They really need to be viewed other than this group!   Posted: 07/29/2017 07:31:16
