About the Image(s)

We are traveling and I have not had time to take pictures as we are driving. We stopped in Las Vegas and I took this with my iPhone from our room on the 10th floor.

I processed it with the Photos app on the phone, converted to B&W and selected one of the standard effects. I think it worked pretty well.

Technically well done, nicely balanced composition, good contrast, nice range of tones. Placement of the towers in the composition works well. For my eye it is a little "busy" for a black and white. I prefer simplicity in black and white.   Posted: 03/12/2023 12:48:52

I like the tones and the contrast of the towers against the sky. I am looking at the original crop on the left and think I prefer it as opposed to the crop on your submission. I do like the crop up from the bottom. I think it works well in B & W. I miss those blue skies.   Posted: 03/12/2023 14:02:19

David, a very solid conversion to black and white. the tones are all well represented. Like Fran the original crop is stronger and cropping up from the bottom is a good choice. Try the composition without the communication tower / power tower on the left. I also question the need for the very white building on the right as it is very white and the eye bounces back to it all the time resulting in an unbalanced feel. For me the story is about the 3 tall towers against the far mountains and light airy sky. That may be a more powerful composition.   Posted: 03/12/2023 16:50:39

Good choice David for the B&W, as se have to enter the picture to understand it and the colors were rather "dull".
I like the balance of the picture, with the white building and the flag on the right. However I find the triangle made by the 3 buildings, the white building and the hangar in the foreground wel done in the original.
These are 2 different pictures. The B&W is now a beautiful landscape with nice tone. The colore one has a more detailed composition but with "dull color. This is just my point of view.   Posted: 03/13/2023 02:11:35

I like your cropping from the original. From the building on down you are right on Dave.

I would like for you to consider the clouds from the top down. Clouds need more tooth and some what darker tonality. My eye kind of fall off the image on the upper area. Jerry   Posted: 03/16/2023 14:09:22

I had to think about this one for a while, it just did not sit comfortably with me and I could not feel why. Then it hit me it that building on the right, it too bright and powerful in the image and is drawing you away from the main image which is the Sign and the three tower. So I wanted to try a different alternative where less is possibly more.   Posted: 03/20/2023 06:22:53
