About the Image(s)

I took this image in January 2017 - I worked at the hospital in Shiprock for 10 years and I would frequently drive by the rock and stop and take pictures. Often I found that images I didn't like much in color looked better in black and white.

Camera -D750 DSLR
Lens - 28-300 zoom. @ 145mm
1/500 sec F/13 ISO 200

I opened this image in Camera Raw with some 'de-haze' and after cropping in PS I converted to B+W using SEP2. I started with the preset 'full dynamic-harsh (015) and then used the control points, vignette and burn edges functions. When I finished removing spots with the clone brush in PS I ran the image though Topaz - Sharpen AI program.

A strong image with great, rare clouds, tones, contrast and lighting. I have been by there many times and never stopped but I did stop at Agathla Peak, another great photo op place.

The pano really works well for this subject, great catch. Just enough light coming through to lite the peak and area around it.

I miss going there.   Posted: 02/02/2021 14:36:08

This is terrific. It's also one of my favorite parts of the US. Your choices for conversion are spot on.   Posted: 02/04/2021 20:06:08

Where's John Wayne and his horse when you need him. Doesent that look like a gigantic gothic cathedral standing so proud lording over everything. That sums up this image. Power of the mountain and its surroundings and the best sky you could have, it seems even the sky is scared to get to close. Fabulous image. What a view to drive past every morning.   Posted: 02/08/2021 08:33:21

Very strong and beautiful image. Very good choice of the format (pano).
The presence of the clouds (and their structure) also brings a lot to the image. Good place at the right time...   Posted: 02/16/2021 06:12:44
