Hay Bales on Wet Morning by Paul Hoffman

November 2019 - Hay Bales on Wet Morning

About the Image(s)

Sony A77 – Sigma 50mm Prime ISO100 1/250 F4.5.

Converted to monochrome in Lightroom and basic level work. PS TKV7 Luminosity Masks to get contrast and detail. Slight sharpening with smart sharpens.

Did try this with the wide-angle lens but could not go wider owing to a signpost on the right and a very untidy farmer dumping all his waste plastic on the left. But with the 50mm I got this nice sharp image with a gentle sweep to the left with the bales off the mist in the distance.

Came across this image while driving down the road and I caught out of the corner of my eye and for once decided to stop. I quite like this one.

I like the composition, it has high impact. I also like the angle of view. The trees in the left third look a little odd to me, they are muted, foggy and do not have the contrast the other trees have.   Posted: 11/01/2019 12:48:35

Nice image with great composition. I wonder how it would look if you flipped the image so that the hay ran left to right.

At first sight, good composition, but a vertical rotation could be more natural (from left to right).
The difference of the trees disturbes me. Is it natural or after the treatment?   Posted: 11/08/2019 07:05:50

The tone in the tree is mist in the early morning that was just hanging there and not moving, but where I was standing there was none. Here is the flipped version.   Posted: 11/14/2019 08:17:23

Thanks Paul for the information. Misinterpretation of the mist...
I prefer this one but the most important is your choice.   Posted: 11/22/2019 04:41:58

Paul, the flip really makes it pop for me.   Posted: 11/15/2019 12:46:33

I like the image Paul. The distant lightness pulls my eye from the big bales into the distant background. What is neat about this image is that the background is on the left or right. Most of my images the background is the top. Love the image. Jerry
