Hadrian’s Wall over Steel Rigg by Paul Hoffman

September 2019 - Hadrian’s Wall over Steel Rigg

About the Image(s)

This is a shot of Hadrian’s Wall as it runs over the top of Steel Rigg. This is just on the Northumbrian/Cumbrian border. The square area to the right is a Gaurds post which would of house four guards. In the winter and bad weather, it is really bleak up here, so it is no place to be posted. But I hope the shot shows off the wall and the extent the Romans went to build this wall. No short cut was taken, they even built it across the highest peaks.

Turned to monochrome in Lightroom, Toned and graded in luminosity mask using TKV6. Slight sharpening.

Great way to bring the viewer into and through the image with the wall. The lighting is very strong. Looks lonely but interesting. Great detail and tones make it pop.   Posted: 09/04/2019 10:42:56

There are a lot of details, and I like the composition.
With (or not) more intentity of the blackness (or contrast), more specific for the clouds, even if they are not the main subject.
This is an image for B&W.   Posted: 09/06/2019 07:37:57

Paul, you again exceeded to show us you skills using luminosity masks. Yes the Romans did amazing things in their attempt to control the world around them. Love this image.   Posted: 09/07/2019 09:01:12

The composition is great and the light and tonality are wonderful. The image makes me want to see more of the surrounding land; a wider view?   Posted: 09/07/2019 13:49:29

Lovely image. Great composition. I'm envious as I have several shots of the wall and I couldn't make any of them work in B&W.   Posted: 09/11/2019 12:43:18
