About the Image(s)

This photo was taken in my backyard. I was the first shot taken with the then just acquired 100 Macro lens. The shot was taken with a Canon 6D at 100 iso. The exposure was handheld at 1/8 sec f/16. The B&W conversion was done in Silver Efex 2 with a bit of touchup in Photoshop. It sat on the hard drive for about a year before I finally decided what I wanted to do with it.

I like the composition and the tones in the image. The lighting in the B&W looks a little harsh and there is lost detail. To make it stand out from the black background it helps to add a thin stroke around the image.   Posted: 08/08/2019 13:03:56

This is a good attempt at this style of image, the composition is very good and I like the lighting you have on the flower. But the make this image pop you need to photo stack the image so it was pin sharp from top to bottom or much sharper on the stamen. The tone you have chosen is nice.
As for keyline, I agree that in 98% of images it is a great idea to have one to define the outer edges, but with this image and the flower defining 60% of the outer edge and the other being the mirror you can get away with not having one.

Interesting one Steve. You have an eye to present the beauty here with a simple approach. It also has a contemporary feel.   Posted: 08/16/2019 13:46:25

The image is strong and makes a definite impact. The placement of the flower is interesting. The texture of the back wall and the sharpness of the stamen are great.

Thanks Larry. That's what I was going for. I was trying to make the stamen tack sharp and allow the curves and textures of the petal to draw the eye directly to it. It was really hard to shoot. I couldn't get in with a tripod so it was one of those brace the elbows on the knees shots.   Posted: 08/17/2019 18:30:59

I like the composition, very original. The sharpness is at the good place.
However on my screen I see "disturbing" elements below left and right above. Maybe just a question of density of the black.   Posted: 08/23/2019 07:12:08

I like the image. I also have tried similar images and threw them out. They all looked dirty. So many little spots? The back large area could use a little more tone. A thin white line would show where the image starts and stops.   Posted: 08/24/2019 17:10:43
