Spare CUPs Anyone? by Lois Alexander-Mandel

January 2018 - Spare CUPs Anyone?

About the Image(s)

While visiting Havana, Cuba, our tour took us to the obligatory cigar and rum store. Having no interest in buying either, I hung around outside hoping to find some interesting people to photograph. As there was a tour bus parked at the curb, that wasn’t hard, as there were many street vendors and panhandlers. I was struck by her wrinkles and her beautiful white hair which seemed almost translucent in the light. Post processing was done in One1 RAW with some tweaking in Lightroom. I wish you all a happy, healthy and creative 2018.

Love her. Almost looks like my grandma, but she passed many years ago. The look of age is not only in her wrinkles but in her eyes. I think I would brighten the face some and a little in the eyes. She is beautiful. Great catch   Posted: 01/07/2018 12:26:18

Why do I feel like I have done something wrong. I think I am in trouble when we get home.
So the image does what it is meant to do, provoke a reaction and that face does from being your grandmother to the feeling your in trouble. I would have like a touch more length in the image but that's just my taste. Invoking image well done.   Posted: 01/21/2018 08:53:34

A great capture. There is a such a contrast between her old, worn face and her shirt with cartoon bunny characters on it. I am distracted by the 4 in the corner, but not the two dark areas above it. A thin white pixel border would help to define the edge. Nice!   Posted: 01/22/2018 20:39:58

That is an expression which has a story behind. Those wrinkles and twitch on the lips say a lot. The background has some issues in particular that number 4. A 2 pixel stroke around would define the edge. Well done.   Posted: 01/25/2018 11:46:47
