Perfect Light by Marge Barham

January 2021 - Perfect Light

About the Image(s)

Once again I am at McKee Gardens in Vero Beach, FL finding beautiful lilies to photograph. This one was just there, with the light hitting it perfectly and waiting for me. It was taken in May which is the best month to be there; you will be surrounded with lilies.

I used my Canon 60D w/ Canon 100-400 lens and settings were f 5.6, 1/350 sec, 320 mm and ISO 400. I darkened it a little and made it square.

I like the reflection. For me, the subject is the water lily and the reflection. I think you could do a tighter crop and toning down the highlights.   Posted: 01/05/2021 17:01:24

Beautiful capture and Photograph. I love the very dark background which helps the flower to pop out. It is all about light and you did pretty well to convey this special moment of light. Good Eye! Congrats ! I agree with Art Jacoby comments.
I just got this new CANON lens 100-400mm and I have to learn how to use it . So far I am a bit disappointed . I love my 70-200mm 2.8. And this new one doesn't give me the bokeh I like. What is your more succesful subject captured with this lens except flowers? Thank you

Regine, I use my 100-400 90% of the time shooting wildlife. Birds of course are the hardest cause they just don't want to sit still for me. So, there are many, many times that I come home with possible one or two keepers. What are you trying to shoot? Have you tried it with a tri-pod? Higher ISO helps too. Where do you live? Maybe we could meet.

Yes, beautiful image Marge. And to improve the photo even more I would either do what Art suggested or even work a bit on the original file and adjust the composition just moving the subject off-center. Good work.   Posted: 01/22/2021 10:44:32
